Getting Started at School
What happens on the first day? How will I know where to go?
On your first day, staff will be on hand to welcome you and guide you. You will be greeted at reception, assigned to your form group, and escorted to your classrooms. Before this, you will have a meeting with a mentor who will go through your timetable and who you can ask questions.
What happens if I forget something?
If you forget something important, let your teacher or mentor know. They’ll help you, and your parents/carers can bring in any necessary items.
What should I do if I’m off sick?
Your parents/carers should inform the school as soon as possible to let us know you will not be attending.
What if I feel unwell at school?
Inform your teacher or mentor immediately. They will ensure you receive care and contact your parents/carers if necessary.
Learning and Support
How much homework will there be?
Homework will be given in small amounts to help you build good study habits. You’ll also receive support and guidance from staff as needed.
What support will I get in lessons if I find the work difficult?
Our learning mentors and teachers are here to support you in every lesson, offering tailored help to ensure you understand and progress.
How will I know how I’m doing in my learning?
You’ll receive regular feedback from your teachers and mentors, as well as progress reviews to help you understand your strengths and areas for improvement. You will also be invited to attend parent/carers evening.
Can I ask questions if I don’t understand something?
Absolutely! We encourage all students to ask questions in class or during 1-2-1 sessions. Your teachers and mentors are always ready to help.
What happens if I miss a lesson?
If you miss a lesson, your teacher or mentor will help you catch up on any work you’ve missed to ensure you stay on track. You will also be able to complete work online.
What happens if I can’t do my work?
Let your teacher know if you are struggling to complete your work. They will provide support or extend deadlines to help you.
What happens if I find it hard to focus in lessons?
Your Learning Mentor and teachers will work with you to develop strategies to help you stay focused, and additional support will be provided if needed. You can also have movement breaks if agreed.
Are there opportunities to work on projects or practical tasks?
Yes, many of our subjects include hands-on projects and practical tasks to help you learn in a fun and engaging way.
Creative Arts
What opportunities are there for me to get involved in Creative Arts?
Creative Arts lessons include activities such as painting, drawing, music, and performance, allowing you to explore your creativity and develop new skills.
What is the Arts Award, and can I work towards it?
Yes, at Rise Education, you can work towards achieving the Arts Award, which recognises your creativity and achievements in the arts.
How will Creative Arts help me in my future?
Creative Arts helps build confidence, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, which are valuable for a variety of career paths and personal development.
School Life and Activities
Can I bring a packed lunch?
Yes, you can bring a packed lunch or choose from the food options at school. We practice family dining and all eat together.
Are there any school trips?
Yes, we offer trips each month that provide opportunities for team building, developing social skills, and creating meaningful friendships in a new environment.
What subjects will I study at Rise Education?
You will study a broad curriculum including Maths, English, Science, Creative Arts, PSHE, Coding & Robotics, and other vocational and enrichment subjects.
Will I have the same teacher for every subject?
No, you’ll have different teachers for different subjects, but they will all work closely together to support your learning.
Safety and Well-Being
Who do I speak to if I have any worries?
Speak to your mentor or form tutor if you have any concerns. They are there to support and guide you.
Will I get bullied?
Rise Education is a safe and inclusive school. Bullying is not tolerated, and staff are always available to provide support and address any issues immediately.
Can I ride my bike to school?
Yes, you can ride your bike to school, if you have permission. Remember to use a lock to secure your bike.
Who do I speak to if I don't feel safe in or outside of school?
Ms Johnson and Ms Richards are the school designated safeguarding leads.
